What is Shaft Spine Alignment?

A Review After One Year

I started spine aligning shafts exactly one year ago in January, 2007. Until then I wasn't a big supporter of spine aligning, I didn't think it made that much of a difference...well, after one year and comparing comments from people who have their shafts spine aligned against those who didn't...it makes quite a bit of difference in feel and results. Players have reported results of 2 - 6 strokes per round of improvement!! Results were more noticeable on steel shafts compared to graphite shafts...0 to 4 strokes were reported on graphite shafts. I personally have noticed an improvment in my own clubs as well, so I am convinced. A pretty small investment from some potentially dramatic results!!!!!

All golf shafts are manufactured by wrapping material (steel, graphite, alloy, etc.) around a mandrel. Where the material joins together is called the “spine”. Visualize this as similar to where clothing material is sewed together to form a seam.

Where the spine is located will naturally be stiffer and the shaft will have a tendency to bend more naturally away from its’ spine…similar to your body and your spine…it’s much easier to bend forward than it is to bend backward.

I prefer to align the spine directly behind your target line, this way it will be less likely to affect your shot in any negative way.

Ever notice that you probably have a “favorite” club in your set that has the same shafts, heads and grips on all the clubs? You always seem to hit this club better than all the others…one explanation could be its' spine is in the proper alignment.

Please note that graphite shafts that are spine aligned will not have all of their graphics or logos in the same location.

Spine aligning is not necessary to have a nice set of golf clubs, but it gives you the best opportunity to allow your clubs to perform at their best.

I only charge $3.00 per club or $12.00 per set...many of my competitors typically charge double what I charge for this service.
