Snake Eyes A+ Review

Golf Club Review.Com Comments:

Golfers just plain like the look of these irons. They look cool. They look serious. The Snake Eyes grips are unique with their black, quality velvet look and spiraling gold logo. The heads are stylishly simple and eye-catching. The snake-eyed logo smiles at their owner and mocks the opposition. These are amongst the most attractive irons we have tested. Players want to pick up these clubs and swing them as soon as they see them. The black and gold shaft bands of the Dynamic Gold Sensicore shafts we selected perfectly complimented the grips and logo.

The Snake Eyes company rose to the upper echelons of the golf equipment world with their beautiful forged wedges made distinctive by their unique snake-eyed logos. Component giant, Golfsmith, bought Snake Eyes in 1998 and began to make the popular line available to clubmakers. Changes and refinements were made to the irons and woods as well. The current Snake Eyes line is one of the most visually compelling in today's marketplace. The look of the clubs has been consistently admired by young and old alike. There are hundreds of golf clubs in our shop. Visitors are drawn first to the Snake Eyes more often than to any other clubs in the racks.

Snake Eyes claims a precision casting process for their 431 stainless steel that includes a "special annealing process" for giving the heads a softer, forged feel. We aren't quite sure what they are doing to the steel, but we do know that it works. The combination of the Snake Eye heads with the fine True Temper Sensicore Dynamic Gold steel shaft makes for a very smooth feeling club. These heads handled mishits well and communicated displeasure only on the most extreme off-centered hits. The shallow cavity back does not appear capable of providing much forgiveness, but results indicated otherwise. The Snake Eyes have the thin topline look of a near-blade, but the feel of a larger cavity back. The minimal offset and moderate head size add to the traditional look of the irons.

These are easy swinging clubs and distance with the Snake Eyes is perhaps the longest of steel shafted irons tested to date; as long as all but a couple of the premium graphite sets. Target shooting on our test range revealed these to be lively and dynamic feeling irons which worked the ball easily. Shots were high and long. Drawing the ball was made easier by the progressive heel weighting pattern in the cavity back.

All testers were impressed by the feel and apparent quality. Four testers took the Snake Eyes out for playing rounds and all were pleased by most aspects of the clubs' performance. All loved the look at address and the feel at impact.

Our consensus opinion: A seriously cool set of irons.
